Week of May 28

Dear Parents –

Class News

It was a fun and full week in 2AS!  We continued working on powerful poetry, practicing how to measure objects around the school, and explored more about life cycles.  The highlight was our Wet and Wild event on Friday!  Thank you so much for all the parents who volunteered at the different stations and to those who came out to cheer on the children. 

Here’s a look at our week ahead:

Monday (Day 2) – Music and P.E.

Tuesday – No School (Wesak Day)

Wednesday (Day 3) – World Language

Thursday (Day 4) – Field Trip and PE (depending on when we return from the field trip)

Friday – No School (Packing day for teachers)

Field Trip

Our field trip is scheduled for Thursday, May 31.  Students MUST wear their ISKL school uniform on the field trip.  This is a school requirement for field trips and a measure to ensure the safety of the students.  Students will also need to bring their hat, water bottle, and a snack from home as we will eat on the bus.  We should return around 12:00, depending on traffic. 

Curriculum Connections

Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop

Our students continued to learn about making powerful poems. They have experimented with line breaks, powerful words, comparisons and have had fun using different kinds of punctuation to enhance meaning. Their poems are filled with emotion and some interesting interpretations of ordinary objects. They have studied the way authors use repeating lines, rhyming words and word choice during reading time to give their poems music. They are absolutely loving this unit and are excited to read and share with you in a few weeks!

Science

We discovered some facts about different animal life cycles. We looked at the life cycles of mammals and compared them to the life cycle of insects.  Students also read independently about an animal of their choice and created a poster to teach others about their animal’s life cycle. 

Math

This week our mathematicians were measuring machines. We had fun finding measurements around the playground and school in centimeters.  We also practiced measuring monsters and created our own monsters to measure.
